How To Tackle Ingrown Hair

Ingrown hairs can be a real pain — quite literally. They happen when hair coils back on itself and grows into the skin. This can cause redness, inflammation and sometimes even pain. But there are things you can do to get rid of them!

If you’re dealing with ingrown hairs, try these tips and see if they help. If not, make an appointment at The Pampered Peach, a Central Long Island waxing bar!

Exfoliate the Area

First, try exfoliating the area with a loofah or other exfoliating scrub. This will help lift the hair out of the skin and prevent it from growing back in. Wet the loofah and apply your favorite body wash, gently scrubbing the area in a circular motion. Do this for a few minutes, then rinse the area with warm water. You can do this once or twice a day.

Find Ingrown Hair Treatment Products

There are also a number of products on the market that are specifically designed to treat ingrown hairs. These typically contain exfoliating ingredients like glycolic acid or salicylic acid, which can help lift the hair out of the skin.

Don’t Pick or Shave

Between treatment, resist the urge to pick or shave ingrown hairs! This will only make them worse and could even lead to infection. If you must shave, be sure to use a clean razor and shave in the direction of hair growth.

Wax Regularly at a Waxing Bar

If you wax regularly, you’re less likely to get ingrown hairs. That’s because waxing pulls the hair out from the root, which prevents it from growing back in. Waxing also helps to exfoliate the skin, which can further prevent ingrown hairs.
